Why I added a weighted vest to my workout routine
All right. Now I am going to explain why I would like I either joined the law-enforcement agency or that I want to blow up a building.
My journey in learning how to stay my absolute healthiest while having hypothyroidism, which is a disease on the auto immune spectrum that many women deal with, and it has been just that. A journey.
There are so many factors to consider when your thyroid is low or high and the more you understand about what exactly affects your thyroid the more you are equipped to know how to keep it balanced.
For me this has meant looking at what I put in my body.
First order of focus was what I was putting IN my body. me living the Paleo lifestyle is the top choice for someone who has a low thyroid levels. It is also the most anti-inflammatory way of living that is out there currently.
It is also looking at what I am putting ON my body. Just as certain foods can inflame your body there are toxins that we can put on our body that absolutely negatively affect our thyroid and our health. The products that are in our every day over the counter beauty products have toxins, metals and chemicals that can negatively affect our Endocryn ( Thyroid) health as well as our reproductive health. That is when @beautycounter entered the picture and I became a consultant. It is a line of skincare and beauty products that has absolutely no toxins that can harm my body and these are products that I now use on a regular basis. Another element that is part of this journey is movement and exercise! For so long I had no idea that high intensity exercises and heavy weights on a regular basis was actually negatively affecting my body in SO many ways! It was crashing my adrenals and messing with my cortisol levels which were negatively affecting my thyroid and when I thought I was helping my body I was actually hurting my body.
And when I started intentionally researching what types of exercise are actually best for people with a low thyroid I saw that the best way to exercise for me is to focus more on long walks and yoga and less on exercises that will put stress on my body.
This was absolutely a big disappointment for someone who used to teach fitness classes and was used to being able to do so much more! The change has been humbling and also really hard.
When the idea came to me by my friend David Robinson @getstrapstaystrapped that I start using a weighted vest for my walks I was a little intimidated at first! They don’t exactly make these things in multiple styles and colors let alone it being big and bulky! I eventually went from hesitation to excitement about the idea of my walks having an edge and that this could be a great way to amp up my workout routine in more ways than one!
I have used the vest while walking outside, on the treadmill and on the stair climber and I am officially a BIG fan! I feel SO much better after working out in this thing and it only takes 20-30 minutes before you really feel the benefits of having this on! It has helped increase my core strength, flexibility and I find that I have less back pain after using it!
I realize that this is a bit unconventional but I am telling you that if you are looking to give your workouts a bit if an edge, this is it! If you are interested in using one, I ordered mine on Amazon and you can find it here.
