When I polled you all last week asking you who of you deals with Anxiety and I was not surprised that 80% of you responded that you do.
It is real and it can be crippling. One of the things I want to promise to all of you is to talk about more than just food but also to be transparent about things like this when it would be so much easier to just talk about the easy stuff.
I had my first anxiety attack when I was working the night shift at a call center in 2010 and was given medication to deal with it. In recent years, I have been using different NATURAL methods to deal with my anxiousness and also to walk through an anxiety attack and I wanted to share them with you.
Methods to deal with Anxiety
BREATHING: I know it seems intuitive but when I feel one coming on I will focus on taking at least 5 very deep and long breaths.
YOGA: The breathing involved with Yoga is helpful but the moves, the stretching of the body all aid in removing stress from the body. So many of the moves are also heart openers which aids in slowing down your heart rate, key in calming the body
ASHWAGANDHA/CALM: These two supplements I take nightly as part of my health routine that help sustain daily rest and calming of the body by reducing stress and anxiety during sleep and during the day.
Prayer/meditation: One of my favorite scriptures is Philippians 4:6-7 “Do not be anxious about anything but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanks, present your requests to God and the PEACE of God which transcends all understanding will guard your heart and mind. Medicating on verses like this and repeating them in-between breathing has been key to calming my anxious heart and mind.
